My Favorite Seasonings

"The Miracle Set"

I'm writing about these first because they have the biggest benefits (that I know of).

Garlic -- Very good for you. Helps fight bacteria and colds. And if you eat a lot of it, it could even help keep the mosquitoes off you.

Onion -- Also very good for you. Fresh onions contain anti-bacterial acids (the same stuff that makes your eyes sting or water). Onion helps with mosquitoes, too. Apparently the bugs don't like the scent.

Cumin -- Could help prevent cancer!! Apparently groups of people who eat a lot of cumin have lower cancer rates.

These seasonings are healthy and flavorful. (I just LOVE my garlic and onion!!) They can go with pretty much any pasta, rice, or meat. And just imagine. Sprinkling a little bit of cumin on your food each meal could help prevent cancer in the long run!

"The Basics"

Okay, so these are the basics--well, the bouillon and salt are, anyway. Also, olive oil is another important basic, even though it isn't pictured here. I make noodles with olive oil and beef bouillon. Bacon grease is another basic that your great-grandparents used a lot of. I only use it when I make eggs in the cast iron skillets.

Bouillon -- comes in flavors like chicken, beef, and vegetable. Provides a base flavor for your food. Knorr is my favorite brand, beef my favorite flavor...by a long shot. The downside? The stuff has a good bit of sodium. Maybe a lot.

Sea Salt -- I love saltiness, and sea salt is just the best of the best. Salt makes food taste much better (try leaving it out for a few days, if you don't believe me), and our bodies need a certain amount of it to stay healthy. (Although the average American diet actually has too much sodium, but you can become depleted sweating it all out under the hot summer sun.)

Mrs. Dash -- a good seasoning to add because it contains lots of healthful herbs and no salt at all.

"The Flavors"

Okay, so I have a confession to make: I'm a lemon pepper lover. Lemon pepper tastes great on a variety of meats as well as on rice and noodles. These are by far my three favorite lemon peppers.

Lemon Pepper (The Gourmet Collection) -- This is manufactured by Dangold Inc. It has a peppery flavor, but it's not overwhelming. (I promise, because I'm not a big "spicy" person, but I love it.) This is what you eat when you have a headache. (The pepper helps with the pain.) Use on steak, chicken, etc. Perfect to rev up meat that's a little dry.

Zesty Lemon (Weber) -- Perfectly balanced to go on practically anything. You could probably put this on broccoli! It is very good on meat, noodles, macaroni, and rice.

Lemon & Pepper (5th Season) -- Inexpensive and it tastes great! Use on noodles, rice, chicken, fish, even on sliced potatoes!

Anyway, whatever seasonings you use, I sure hope you enjoy them, and I hope they're healthy. Happy cooking!
